Council appoints Armstrong to vacant seat

Mayor Ruby's recommendation of Curt Armstrong was accepted with unanimous approval by Dillingham city council.

DILLINGHAM: At it's regular meeting Thursday night, the Dillingham city council accepted Mayor Alice Ruby's nomination of Curt Armstrong to fill vacant Seat D. Armstrong was one of at least six residents who submitted letters of interest to the city for the council seat vacated by Keggie Tubbs.

Ruby said her priorities in picking a primary nominee for the council were a person who could "hit the ground running" and someone who could help the city work through "tough fiscal issues." Armstrong, who has past experience on the council, has spoken in favor of submitting the petition to annex the Nushagak Commercial Fishing District forward to the Local Boundary Commission. The council will next vote on at its January 15 meeting.

Curt Armstrong was appointed to Council Seat D with unanimous support from the other five council members. Ruby also noted that with Tubbs' resignation, councilman Tracy Hightower is now Mayor Pro Tem, as he is the current longest serving member on the council, elected to his seat in October of 2011.
