A conversation with UA president Jim Johnsen

Jeremy Hsieh/KTOO

Dr. Johnsen, the 14th president of the University of Alaska system, spoke with us recently about his views balancing priorities as state budgets are tightened.

University of Alaska President Jim Johnsen was in Dillingham on October 30, and joined KDLG's Dave Bendinger for a conversation on his vision for leading the university through tough fiscal times. Dr. Johnsen is the 14th  president of UA, and took over on September 1.

Johnsen spent some 12 years in executive roles with UA in the past, and also brings private sector experience with Doyon Ltd. and Alaska Communications to the job. The conversation below begins with a question to Johnsen, asking if he believes Alaska's finances have truly reached a crisis moment.
