Coast Guard rescues two in bad weather near Togiak

USCG

Unnamed man and pregnant woman hoisted from F/V Yo Yo after mechanical troubles and big seas made rescue necessary Sunday.

KDLG:  The US Coast Guard launched a C-130 and MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Kodiak Sunday in response to a distress call from a boat near Togiak.

The crew of the F/V Yo Yo, a 29 foot vessel, reported mechanical problems and said the engine was disabled. Weather conditions were worsening, with 35 mph winds and 10-foot seas reported.

The C-130 arrived on scene and monitored the vessel attempting to make for safe shelter under minimal power. The crew reported that the conditions were too dangerous to continue and requested rescue.

When the helicopter arrived, it was able to hoist the two, a man and a pregnant woman, off the vessel and transported them to Togiak. No injuries were reported.
