Tonight Fish and Game's Paul Salomone tells us about things picking up in the Egegik District, we hear about an internship program getting local youth into fish science and research, and drifter Lange Solberg updates on the waiting game in Naknek-Kvichak.
Bristol Bay's total sockeye run passed a million on Thursday after a daily catch of 229,000 and daily escapement of 55,984. The number of boats and permits are climbing: 1,301 permits fished on 1,038 boats as of Friday afternoon. And while Nushagak still has the top catches, Egegik had it's best day yet on Thursday with 106,00 fish caught in the district.
Port Moller didn't fish today, and the genetic samples were delayed, so no news on that front.
Tonight, we hear about the catch in Egegik, the lack of catching in Naknek-Kvichak, the walrus-avoiding in Ugashik and some Bristol Bay youth who are interning in fisheries positions this summer.
Catch KDLG's Bristol Bay Fisheries Report at 6:30, 10, and 2 a.m., and at 1:30 p.m. on the weekends.
