Assault at Gusty's Yard leaves fisherman's skull visible

KDLG: An Akiak man is in the Dillingham jail for an alleged assault that sent another man to the hospital Tuesday.

Police say Dexter Demantle, 27, was highly intoxicated when he punched and kicked another fisherman named Jack Tom, Jr. at Gusty’s Boat Yard at Squaw Creek.

Tom’s injuries from the assault included a large gash by his left ear that was deep enough to see his skull, according to the nurse who treated him.

Police say Demantle provided a breath sample that tested at .251 percent alcohol.  The victim was intoxicated too, as were others who witnessed the assault.

One witness told police that Tom had been throwing rocks and tires and that had angered Demantle.  The victim, Jack Tom Jr., is the same man who ended up in the water at the Dillingham Boat Harborafter causing a ruckus there earlier this fishing season.
