Angasan guilty of vehicular homicide in Mount Vernon, WA

KDLG: A man originally from South Naknek has been found guiltyof vehicular homicide by a jury in Mount Vernon, Washington. The Skagit Valley Heraldcovered the case of 49-year-old Barry Nicholas Angasan, who prosecutors said was drunk when he caused a single vehicle accident in May 2015 that killed 48-year-old Jeffery Thomas.

The Valley Herald reported the jury handed down the verdict Monday, finding Angasan guilty of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and driving while intoxicated.

Angasan’s attorney argued there was reason to doubt Angasan had been the driver of the accident, but the jury did not buy it. Angasan said during his testimony that he did not know the victim, Jeffery Thomas, but had picked him up on the road before the crash.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 4.
