AmeriCorps now hiring village-based positions

AmeriCorps is recruiting for several one-year, full-time positions based in rural Alaska. Deadline to apply is Nov. 28.

AmeriCorps is recruiting for one-year, full-time positions based in rural Alaska. After training, the AmeriCorps members will begin service in their home villages starting in January.

"We recruit from right there in the villages, and we're looking for individuals interested in one of two programs," said Sonia Vent, and AmeriCorps program.

One of the two programs is called RAVEN, and focuses on promoting environmental education and best practices in the village. The other is called BIRCH, and focuses on hosting healthy activities for other youth in the village.

"Our goal is to increase the resiliency amongst the youth, so they have better problem-solving skills and they're able to network with adults and other youth in their communities," said Vent, speaking about the BIRCH program.

The AmeriCorps programs pay a stipend of $1200 per month, and members received more than $5,000 to put towards education at the end of the year. The deadline to apply is November 28.
