Aleknagik Road Project Continues This Summer

KDLG News

The opening of the Wood River Bridge last fall was undoubtedly the highlight of a three-phase plan that’s continuing this year. Sean Baski is the DOT’s Project Manager for phases two and three.

“Phase one just constructed the bridge and a little bit of connection into local streets. Phase two will improve the existing roadways out there and provide a much better connection.”

Local contractor Jerry Meng’s JJC Enterprises was awarded the $6.3 million contract for phase two. Baski says work on the third and final portion of the project will begin next year and likely carry over into 2018. That will upgrade and pave the road beginning at Lake Road.

“The project has been well received by the community and quite frankly, pushed by the community. (It’s) a great testament to their fortitude and their drive. The Department of Transportation is very happy to deliver the much-needed improvements to the community.”

Baski says the road will remain open to traffic as much as possible throughout the rest of the construction.
