Alaskan Appointed to a Higher Education Governance Board

The longest serving member of the University of Alaska Board of Regents has been appointed to the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. Mary Hughes is the first Alaskan to serve on the Board, which is the premier authority on higher-education governance. Hughes was first appointed to the Board of Regents in 2002 by then Governor Tony Knowles. Sara Palin reappointed Hughes in 2009. Her current term ends in 2017. Hughes is a former campaign staffer for Senator Lisa Murkowski and for 7-years she hosted a weekly radio show in Anchorage called “Profile Alaska”.
