Alaska State Troopers Launch Plane for Overdue Travellers on Lake Iliamna

A family of four is safe after running into windy conditions on Lake Iliamna. Gregory Zackar, his wife Renae, and their two kids left in a boat Wednesday morning from Igiugig enroute to Kokhanok.

At 2:20 that afternoon, more than six hours after departing, Kokhanok VPSO Joy Reyneke reported that the family was overdue on the trip that normally takes 3 hours.

Troopers launched an airplane from Iliamna Air Taxi.  By 4:30, they located the family taking shelter near Big Mountain where they were waiting out the wind.

Troopers reported that the family was prepared to spend an extended period outdoors and were properly equipped to spend the night.  They arrived safely in Kokhanok Thursday morning.
