Alaska State Trooper drug report 2014

Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit provides an overview of drug use and arrests during 2014.

2014 saw a rise in the use of heroin in both urban and rural areas, according to a report released by the Alaska State Troopers. 

In the report, the Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit notes the apparent increase of the abuse of heroin and other opiates is of significant concern, seizures of methamphetamines and prescription drugs also increased in 2014.

But the report also states that alcohol and marijuana remain the overwhelming drug of choice for rural Alaska.

The number of arrests related to heroin, methamphetamines, and marijuana jumped from 2013. The value of all drugs and alcohol seized in 2014 by local, state, and federal agencies totaled over $28 million.

Numbers of note from 2014: 

  • 22.42 lbs of heroin seized 
  • 209 heroin related arrests
  • 385 gallons of alcohol seized
  • 174 alcohol related arrests
  • 31.36 lbs of cocaine seized
  • 31 cocaine related arrests
