Well, it’s time once again for the KDLG annual membership drive.  The KDLG staff and our army of volunteers are braving construction at the Dillingham High/Middle School in order to bring you this year’s drive.  The drive is the station’s 34th, and we’re really excited about welcoming new members to the KDLG family, as well as keeping the relationship alive with those of you who have been members over the years.  This year’s membership drive is July 6 – July 10, and KDLG needs continued support from people like you.

I’m new to the Bristol Bay area after living in Fairbanks, and the relationship between KDLG and the people of Bristol Bay became apparent to me right away.  You rely on KDLG to bring you news and information, like the Bristol Bay Messenger and the Trading Post, and in turn, KDLG relies on your continued support.  Unfortunately, operating a radio station takes money, and in the overall scheme of things, donating whatever you can isn’t all that much.

If you’re like me, you buy a coffee at the gas station here in Dillingham every morning, and how much do you get out of that cup?  The coffee lasts about an hour and then it’s gone.  Now imagine if you pledged to KDLG what coffee costs in a week.  That money goes a lot further than just an hour.  Even small donations of just a couple of dollars go a long way in helping KDLG bring the programs that you depend on.

Wrapping up, it’s been nice getting to know everyone here in Dillingham over the last couple of months, and it’s a true pleasure working for KDLG.  I sincerely hope that you become a member of KDLG, or continue your membership, and I look forward to continue serving the Bristol Bay area.

P.S. – If you see a slightly overweight guy with a gigantic beard and glasses walking along the lake road with a big eared dog, feel free to say, “Hello.”

All the best,

Matthew Schroder

KDLG Program Director
