Well, it’s official.  KDLG is now streaming its AM broadcast signal on the Internet.  It has been a long time coming and we are all very proud of this expanded service.  However, we want to let the public know that there are some limitations and for at least a month or so it’s still going to be somewhat experimental.  With this in mind we ask that everyone be patient with the service.

So far the stream has had some connection problems and we are working to find out exactly why.  One problem I believe we ran into this Saturday was the high winds in Dillingham.  Since we are using a satellite service for the Internet connection movement of the dish can cause interruptions.  If disconnection occurs during station automation hours it is likely it will be off for several hours.

Another thing to note is that you will need Windows Media Player, so if you are a Mac user you will need to click here to download the program if it is not already installed.  When clicking on the link you will most likely be asked to open or download a small file.  If you get this option choose to use Windows Media Player to open the file.

One more limitation to the stream is that right now we have only set it up to allow 15 users on at a time.  If there are already 15 people connected then the next person who tries to connect will be unable to.  This is controlled by the streaming host company and can be increased by paying for more slots.  If demand warrants after a month we will raise this limit.  However, it will cost more money for us, so we would also like to encourage you to use our on-line donation page to help us provide the service.  By donating on-line you also get access to lots of KDLG content for download like copies of the popular feature on the history and lore of Southwest Alaska “Our Story”.  And coming soon will be downloads of Open Line daily.

If you have a really hard time connecting please email us at kdlg@dlgsd.org and we will try to help you.

We hope you enjoy the service and hope you can tell your friends and family abroad about this amazing new service.  Click Listen Live! to connect.

Let us know what you think and post a reply to this entry or email kdlg@dlgsd.org.
