Flu Season Approaches, State Recommends Vaccines

As school is starting up the importance of getting flu vaccines is greater.  The state of Alaska has flu vaccines available now and recommends getting it earlier rather than later.  

August is National Immunization Awareness Month which mean state public health centers will waive all immunization administration fees for state-provided vaccines during for the whole month.

Study Shows Alaska's Youth Vote Turnouts High

A recent study shows Alaskan youth votes more consistently than a lot of states in the lower 48. 

The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, or CIRCLE, is based at Tufts University Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service.  CIRCLE conducts research on civic education in schools, colleges and community settings and young American voting.

Alaska Crabbers Urge Obama to Impose Ban on Russian Crab Imports

An Alaska crab fishing group is calling for President Obama to ban imports of seafood from Russia.

The Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers issued a statement claiming there’s been a spike in illegal, unreported and unregulated crab fishing in Russia’s waters in the past two decades.  This comes in response to a recent Russian ban on US seafood, which was in response to US and international sanctions. 

Executive Director of the Alaska Bering Sea Crabbers Mark Gleason says Russian illegal crab fishing is not a new phenomenon.

GCI Agreement with Disney Network Allows for Seven Years of Access

Alaska’s largest cable provider, GCI, made a seven year agreement with Disney networks.  This allows the cable company to broadcast 16 popular sports, news and entertainment channels in 2021.  KDLG’s Thea Card has more.

The Disney networks include ESPN and ABC Family Channels.  The deal was negotiated by the national Cable Television Cooperative and will provide these channels without interruption and adds products like the SEC Network and on-demand programming.
