For the next several day’s a group of salvage experts will try once again to raise the sunken tender Lone Star from the bottom of the Igushik River. The impact of the sinking on the local commercial salmon fishery was outlined this week during a meeting in Dillingham. KDLG’s Mike Mason was there and filed this report.

The new plan to recover the sunken fishing tender Lone Star has been approved by the U.S. Coast Guard. The vessel has been sitting in the middle of one of the major sockeye salmon producing rivers in Bristol Bay since late June.

The Alaska Native village corporation for Dillingham, Ekuk, and Portage Creek says "diminishing supplies of dry standing wood" prompted the change.

The eruption of the Veniaminof Volcano on the Alaska Peninsula increased in severity Friday morning. KDLG’s Mike Mason has the details.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 struck the Aleutian Islands this morning. The earthquake occurred at 8:25 this morning and was centered about 55-miles southeast of Adak.
