Ekwok man awaits trial on Anchorage rape charges

Fred Tom Hurley, III, 26, is being held in custody on six rape charges against two women. The young man from Ekwok had been out of custody less than two days before the alleged rapes occurred in Anchorage.

Troopers, DPD respond to calls for help as pair of hunters reported being chased at high speeds by another man after a minor accident on Snake Lake Road. Ronnie Johnson, 54, charged with two counts of fear assault.

Knutsen mostly to blame for his own death, says jury

All twelve jurors (it only takes 10 for a verdict in a civil trial) agreed that Fred Knutsen was 90 percent at fault for his Aug. 21, 2012 drowning. Former DPD officer Ramon Golden was 10 percent to blame, said the jury, because of his inflammatory language that did not help de-escalate the situation. Knutsen's two children were awarded $38,000 total, to be paid by the city of Dillingham or its insurance company. However, that amount is subject to paying the plaintiff's attorney, and possibly having to pay 90 percent of the defense legal bill after losing the case.

Brian L. Heinrichsen, 65, killed after accidentally shooting himself with .454 caliber Casull pistol at the start of a moose hunt north of Amanka Lake.  AST says Heinrichsen lives in Puyallup, Washington.

Campion stepping down as Anchorage DA

After 28 months on the job, veteran prosecutor Clint Campion announced Friday he is stepping down as the Anchorage District Attorney. Campion took over in May, 2015, after Sharon Marshall retired.

Carrie Nick, Contessa Berlin both failed to show up on time for jury duty Thursday morning, and both had been drinking. Judge Heath ordered each repay their airfare, hotel, and other costs from the lengthy trial.

Ty Anthony Moore, 26, taken into custody Tuesday in Togiak, a village he was banished from for suspected drug dealing. Moore was arrested pursuant to a warrant to begin a year in jail for conviction of being a felon in possession of a gun after Dillingham arrest last February.

Knutsen's family allege city police officers and volunteer EMS responders were negligent in not rescuing the young man. Knustsen, who was highly intoxicated, had climbed into the water at the harbor after getting into a fight that prompted a call for police to the scene.

Akiak attempts to banish former VPO, alleged bootlegger

Akiak Native Community IRA Council issued a banishment order for Jacques Anthony Cooper, a former Village Police Officer they accuse of bootlegging. He denies the allegations, says tribe turned against him on account of his law enforcement work.

Joshua G. Rivera, 38, was caught with 12.5 grams, $19,000 cash in January, 2016. He reached a plea deal Tuesday, agreeing to six year jail term. Rivera complained that jail is a hard place for an addict to recover.

Bryan Anderson, 35, Bristol Bay Angels varsity basketball coach, could not be resuscitated after falling into the lake returning from a hunting trip late Sunday.

A 10-year-old in Togiak accidently shot a 6-year-old fatally on Wednesday. The 10-year-old did not purposefully point the gun at the other child and thought the firearm was not loaded.

State troopers, Koliganek VPSO seeking public's help in tracking down Sean Nelson, wanted on an assault charge from an incident late Wednesday in the village.

Dillingham police found Mary Tilden was in possession of one dose of heroin during the July 29 drug bust on the F/V Andy O. At a hearing Wednesday, the possession charge was dropped in return for a plea to violating terms of her probation.
