AST Releases Identity of Quinhagak Woman Found Dead Monday

From KYUK, Bethel:  Alaska State Troopers have identified the body that was found in Quinhagak Monday afternoon as that of 25-year-old Lisa Johnson. Johnson had been a missing person since February 2nd, not January 2nd as previously reported by AST.

Johnson's body was located off a trail near the end of the new runway in the village. On Tuesday, troopers secured the surrounding area and have been working with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.

Dept. of Corrections Confirms Inadvertent Recording of Attorney-Client Calls

The Goose Creek Correction Center (GCCC), one of the facilities the Dept. of Corrections says may have allowed for inadvertent monitoring or recording of phone calls between inmates and their attorneys.

AWT Cite Igiugig Man for Unlawful Moose Harvest

DILLINGHAM:  Alaska wildlife troopers in King Salmon report progress investigating an unlawfully harvested pregnant cow moose near Lake Iliamna.

Troopers first spotted the kill site on a routine helicopter patrol on January 16, and evidence led towards the village of Igiugig. On Wednesday, troopers cited Robert Hester, 25, with the unlawful take of a cow moose and hunting without a current license. 

Hester’s arraignment is scheduled for the end of February.

AST, Togiak VPSO Investigate Burglary at Togiak School

DILLINGHAM:  State troopers and the Togiak village public safety officer are looking for information into a recent burglary at the Togiak School.

Authorities were first notified Sunday afternoon, and an investigation found that a small amount of money had been stolen from the school's front office.

Troopers are asking that anyone with information call the VPSO in Togiak or the troopers in Dillingham.

Greg Jakubowski, 62, Found Dead Wednesday

DILLINGHAM: Police report that Greg Jakubowski, 62, was found dead in his home on Shannon’s Pond Road Wednesday morning. A friend had gone to Jakubowski’s home after not hearing from him for several days, and knowing he had not been feeling well.

Jakubowski was a frequent caller on KDLG’s Open Line, and was known for a philosophical approach to his almost daily comments to listeners.

Police say there was no obvious cause of death, but an autopsy will be conducted in Anchorage.   

Next of kin have been notified.

Manokotak Man Arrested for Assaulting Village Police Officer

DILLINGHAM:  Garret Kashatok, 29, from Manokotak, was arrested at about 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning after the VPSO and VPO were called to his residence on reports of a disturbance.    

Kashatok was allegedly highly intoxicated, and struck the village police officer while he was being arrested.    

He was charged with disorderly conduct, possession of alcohol in a dry village, assault on a police officer, and endangering the welfare of a child on account of several children in the home at the time of his arrest.
