The Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team intercepted a shipment of oxycodone pills destined for Dillingham late last week. The 100 pills seized carry a local street value of about $20,000.  Jose and Jerilyn Sanchez have been arrested; authorities say the couple was targeting the Beaver Round-Up festivities to distribute the dangerous narcotics.  KDLG's Dave Bendinger reports.

He outlined his solutions to the ongoing budget crisis and called on Alaska's Senators and Representatives to support the state's public education system. Sled dog races are held annually in small villages across the state. In the Bristol Bay region there are annual races in places like New Stuyahok and Koliaganek but the most prestigious race is held in Dillingham.      KDLG's Mike Mason covered this year's race and filed this story.

Alaska’s Izembek National Wildlife Refuge is a 315,000-acre stretch of eelgrass and tundra pockmarked with lakes and lagoons, a site where the geese called Pacific black brants stop off to feed before they begin their journey to wintering grounds in Mexico. But the fate of this remote wilderness area has become a critical bargaining chip in an inside-the-Beltway battle, with Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) threatening to block Sally Jewell’s nomination as interior secretary unless the Obama administration agrees to put a road through it.

The Iditarod may be the most closely watched sled dog race on earth but in the Bristol Bay region the most prestigious race is the annual "Western Alaska Sled Dog Championship" that was held over the weekend. KDLG's Mike Mason called the race and filed this report.
